So if I could do one thing different this year, the 2009 season would have been a Paralympic year. Personally, I think the 2009 season started aggressive due to my underachievement in Beijing and being hungry to prove that I’m not deserving of a top 13 position. I arrived in Florida at the end of March to kick the season off with some good warm weather training, and a “just for fun” competition where I nearly matched my 100m record time of 14.51 this time on a really slow track. I was terrified on my birthday because I actually had 2 workouts on my 30th. I wasn’t sure if it was turning 30 that killed me or my training. Either way I got over it and I came back to Canada in such great shape it was actually easy to keep the momentum going.
May and June were exciting. I was invited to the IPC world cup in Manchester to participate in the 400m which I was ranked 6thth, and come out with a solid 5th place. Maybe 4th would have been possible if the airline hadn’t crunched my racing chair on the way in because I missed 4th by .10 seconds. The Swiss Series went amazing with some great times and confirmation that I’m willing to nip at the heals of the big guns and it’s not a fluke. in the world at the time. A few weeks before my coach and I were to leave, I was told they changed the event to an 800m. Thinking that I’m not an 800m racer, my invitation had been rescinded. It turns out they had already booked my flight and therefore invited me for the 800m anyway. I was terrified but with some specific training I managed to go in ranked 30
